The City of Palm Springs established a program in December 2008 to identify the officially recognized neighborhood organizations throughout the City by attaching “blade” signs with the name of the neighborhood organization onto existing street signs.

This program was developed by the Palm Springs Neighborhood Involvement Committee (now known as ONE-PS), which brings together people who are working to improve the livability and character of their neighborhood.

It is thought that the establishment of this neighborhood identification “blade” sign program will help foster a sense of pride in one’s neighborhood as well as a sense of belonging.

The neighborhood organizations associated with the City’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement  purchase the “blade” signs using City specifications.

El Mirador signOrganizations use a template and dimensions supplied by the City in designing their neighborhoods' "blade" signs. But, the colors, lettering, logos and designs are left up to the neighborhoods. However, the City must approve of the design, paying particular attention to the legibility and visibility of design.

The neighborhood organizations purchase the signs directly from a manufacturer and submit a map to the City indicating where they would like the signs installed. The City will attach the “blade” signs on existing street signs, but the cost to replace or repair the neighborhood signs is the responsibility of the neighborhood organization.

Currently neighborhood “blade” signs are installed in The Movie Colony, El Mirador, Racquet Club Estates, The Mesa, Indian Canyons, Deepwell Estates, Sunmor, Historic Tennis Club, Ranch Club Estates, Tahquitz River Estates, Vista Las Palmas, Warm Sands, El Rancho Vista Estates, Baristo, Vista Norte, Canyon Corridor, Movie Colony East, Demuth Park, Andreas Hills, Sonora Sunrise, Desert Park Estates, Los Compadres, Twin Palms, Sunrise Park, Araby Commons, Melody Ranch and Lawrence Crossley neighborhoods, if you would like to see what they look like in place.
