Union Bank Art Panels

With David L. Gray

Join us on Tuesday, February 21st for a Modernism Event: Union Bank Art Panels. This event is presented twice at the Welwood Murray Memorial Library at 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. & 1:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m. by David Gray. Learn about the fascinating history and origin of the Bas-Relief Terra Cotta Sculpture Palm Springs in Sculpture—Past & Future created by sculptor Lawrence Tenney Stevens (1896-1972), a part-time resident of Palm Springs. Dedicated on September 18, 1959 when the south branch of the First Security National Bank (now the Union Bank at 500 S. Indian Canyon Dr.) opened, the lecture will also touch on this mid-century bank and its Chinese American Architect Joseph A. Wong (1921-2011) of Scottsdale, AZ. This special event requires advanced ticket purchase online at www.modernismweek.com/events at $20 per person.  Proceeds from this program to benefit the Friends of the Palm Springs Library.

Lecturer David L. Gray, Principal with Gray Public Relations & Marketing, is a former Palm Springs Public Library Trustee (2009-2016), and recipient of the 2014 Outstanding Community Service Leader Award from the Desert Business Association. He has a B.S. degree in Art History & English from Atlantic Union College, and has lived in Palm Springs since 2003.
